"Come dance with the west wind and touch on the mountain tops
Sail o'er the canyons and up to the stars
And reach for the heavens and hope for the future
And all that we can be and not what we are..."
- from "The Eagle and the Hawk" (song) John Denver
October 12, 2008, was the 11th anniversary of John Denver's death. We traveled down to Pacific Grove, to a point off of Monterey Bay, where his plane crashed into the water and he passed away. It was here that we joined a group of people who were gathered to remember. There were two guys playing guitars and singing songs, people brought flowers, some took the time to clean up the beach around them. Dave and I walked along the rocks and gazed at the tide pools. The sky was blue and the ocean was beautiful to watch.
I have always enjoyed listening to John Denver sing. He was so in tune with life and nature. I remember singing along with his songs. They were the songs that I embrace and remember my teenage years. I know that some people think that his type of music, the folk music, is kind of corny, but they really spoke to my soul. I will never forget John Denver.
"Commit yourself to do whatever it is you can contribute in order to create a healthy and sustainable future - the world needs you desperately. Find that in yourself and make a commitment - that is what will change the world." John Denver
